How does a solar collective work?

A collective solar scheme, step by step

1. Sign up for free and without obligation - from 23 June

When you register on this website, you will be asked questions about your house, its roof, and your electricity usage.

Based on your answers, you will receive an estimate for the ideal number of solar panels for your roof, with an indication of the potential return on investment, through savings on electricity bills and income from Feed-in Tariff payments.

2. Auction - 22 August

In the auction, qualified suppliers have competed by outbidding each other for the most competitive price for a high quality offer with pre-defined criteria.

The winning supplier has set the price for all solar systems in the collective solar scheme.

3. Offer - 10 September

After the auction, all participants will receive a personalised offer. With this offer, you will find plenty of personalised information about the winning supplier, your complete package and your investment versus revenue.

4. Decision - until 19 October

After you have received your personalised offer, you have six weeks to decide whether you want to accept it or not.

We will offer you the opportunity to meet the winning supplier and take a look at the materials at an information event. If you have registered, you will receive an invitation to such events ahead of time.

5. Roof survey

If you accept the offer, you will be asked to pay a small deposit and fully refundable deposit of £150. After receiving the payment, your details will be transferred to the supplier who will carry out a survey of your roof.

On-site the supplier will check whether the suggested number of panels will fit and if the expected generation will be reached. During the survey you can also ask the supplier questions or discuss changes based on your particular roof.


6. Installation

After you approve your survey report, you and the installer will schedule the installation date. You will have a complete and working solar PV system installed on your roof, after which you will then receive the invoice, minus the deposit. This final invoice has to be paid in full after the installation of your solar PV system.


What if the survey shows the solar PV system does not fit?

If the survey shows that the solar panels cannot be installed, the supplier will first see if a smaller number of panels can be installed. You will then be provided with a new offer that you can decide to accept, or not.

If this is not possible, or your roof is not suitable due to limited accessibility, fragility or too much shade, then your offer will be cancelled.

If your offer is cancelled, or you decide not to accept your new offer, your deposit will be refunded in full.
